I have seen blogging become very popular these days and especially for kids under 13. My nephew sits in front of the computer and blogs all the time. He has become quite an expert on the Internet but I still have to keep a eye on him because for other reasons it can become harmful.
So, here are the top reasons why you should allow your child to blog. Without a doubt, blogging gives kids additional motivation and experiences to learn new and different things.
#1 – First reason is that blogging is a step wise procedure where kids learn topics to blog about, how to blog, the different software required to blog and which interface to use, etc. These skills help kids in other academic areas.
#2 – Before starting to blog, kids must be aware of different blogging tools such as blogger, WordPress, etc. Becoming familiar with the different software programs is always a plus for students to know.
#3 – Blogging helps kids in various ways by improving their writing skills such as framing of a sentence and referring to a specific idea. It also helps them to connect and communicate with people and other kids from all over the world.
#4 – It allows kids to express their creativity in a unique and individual way.
#5 – Helps them to understand and have better knowledge of literature, computers and many other school subjects.
#6 – When kids blog they look for the blogs created by other kids and also the one created by them. The main content is mostly linked to topics of interest for kids under 13.
#7 – The topics vary from art, music, cartoons, hobbies, computer games, cartoon reviews and areas related to extra curricular activities and interests.
#8 – These blogs can be used by kids as a pastime and also as a possible future career option.
#9 – It helps them research various topics and if they wish, they can also include the information in their own blogs or in school assignments.
#10 – It also enhances their knowledge, passion and desire to learn. There are some sites that have restrictions for kids under 13, so one should check the sites before blogging.
Blogging should start at a moderate level for kids under 13 with the supervision of an adult. Parents and teachers should make kids aware of problems caused by the Internet and always be aware of information on the Internet that must be avoided by kids.

Though I’m still afraid of letting my child try this stuff but I will see if he will be interested with it as well. You made a good point about everything on this post that is why I am now thinking on how will approach my daughter and what will be the exact moment for me to have a mother and daughter talk. Sad to say but we have family issues within our house though I really want the best for my daughter.
Hello Jenna, It never hurts to talk to your child about the right way to blog and the best internet practices to use. It may bring the two of you closer during this difficult time. Having a common activity with your child can improve your relationship. Consider blogging a way for you to spend time together. Is your child a teenager?
